Lidar – a play on the words “light detection and ranging” – uses lasers to generate 3D images, and provides vital information including distance, speed, and dimensions. This enables accurate detection tracking of objects based on real-time data. Emerging lidar applications include Autonomous Vehicles (“AVs”), Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (“ADAS”), traffic and pedestrian monitoring in smart cities, security and facility management, crowd analytics, and various industrial applications.
