The current administration’s approach to clean energy policy has led to the cancellation of $83 billion worth of renewables projects. Unlike the Biden administration, which prioritized and invested in sustainability, the Trump administration has taken the complete opposite stance. From the moment President Trump assumed office for his second term, his administration has reversed dozens of green energy policies and wreaked havoc on America’s fledgling renewables industry.
With the administration cutting policy support for the industry, a BlueGreen Alliance report notes that hundreds of renewable energy projects across the country are now cancelled. The labor and environmental coalition published the report just as American labor leaders get ready to meet with the Senate to talk about the country’s renewable energy labor force. These individuals have been adversely affected by project cancellations due to the Trump administration’s anti-green energy stance.
According to BlueGreen Alliance’s analysis, 223 clean energy and manufacturing projects have fallen victim to the current administration’s energy policies, with 111,765 employment opportunities either cancelled or in limbo in the meantime.
This occurred within President Trump’s second term and is a testament to the effects his policies have had on America’s clean energy industry and its labor market. America lost gigawatts of clean energy, and tens of thousands of U.S. citizens have either lost their jobs or have been left hanging as their projects stall.
Roxanne Johnstone, the vice president of research at BlueGreen Alliance, says the coalition’s analysis shows the ‘staggering loss’ of both employment opportunities and clean energy investment due to the Trump administration’s policies. By placing more stringent requirements on energy, industrial, and manufacturing projects for tax credits, the Trump administration has put a whopping 1.2 million jobs and investment worth $695.2 billion on the line.
The analysis notes that this outcome is largely due to Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which either cut or reduced Biden-era renewable energy incentives, coupled with targeted moves by the federal government to cut support for electric vehicles and green energy. As a result, America’s still burgeoning renewables segment has lost tens of billions of dollars in federal investment, and private investors are now largely unwilling to invest in the ecosystem as well.
Simultaneously, America’s largest competitors are investing heavily in renewable energy and sustainable technology. China is the de facto world leader in electric vehicle production volume and affordability, on top of dominating solar panel and wind turbine production globally.
Several countries across the European Union and the broader European continent have also made impressive forays into producing green energy and renewable technology. The U.S. is clearly at odds with global trends in energy and technology and risks being left far behind by its competitors.
This is raising concerns, especially among firms like Frontieras North America Inc. that need all the policy support that they can get in order to attain their objective of transforming the energy landscape of not just the U.S. but the globe.
