Chinese EV Exports Doubled YoY in September, Data Shows

Chinese automakers shipped 222,000 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles internationally through September, marking a 100% surge compared to the prior year. The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers reported the figures alongside domestic passenger car sales that climbed 11.2% over the same period.  These numbers reveal resilient demand despite intense competitive pressures that are fragmenting the world's largest automotive market. The export acceleration shows how manufacturers are increasingly depending on foreign sales to compensate for deteriorating margins at home.  Domestic price wars have created substantial pressure for Chinese automakers and pushed them to aggressively pursue growth opportunities overseas. Recent investment allocation…

Tesla Bumps Up Lease Prices as Federal EV Incentives Expire

Texas-based electric vehicle giant Tesla has raised lease prices across its U.S. lineup this week after federal EV tax credits expired, passing lost subsidies directly to customers. The Model Y now carries monthly lease costs of $529 to $599, up $50 to $70 from prior $479-$529 rates, while purchase prices remain unchanged.  Through the Big Beautiful Bill, Congress eliminated federal tax incentives worth $7,500 for new electric vehicle purchases and leases, plus an additional $4,000 for used EVs soon after President Donald Trump assumed office.  Tesla and competing automakers had been incorporating these subsidies into lease structures to reduce monthly…

New Paper Calls for More Transparency in EV Charger Data

Corporate greed disguised as competitive strategy is sabotaging America's electric vehicle transition. While politicians debate infrastructure spending and automakers tout battery breakthroughs, charging network operators quietly strangle adoption growth by withholding basic operational information that drivers need to plan trips confidently. A recent Brookings paper has revealed that limited real-time data is frustrating EV drivers who want to figure out which charging stations are available and functional.  The paper states that just 34% of electric vehicle charging stations in 40 states and across half a dozen major interstates provide drivers with real-time data on the availability and functionality of charging…

Falling Battery Prices Could Accelerate EV Uptake

Electric vehicle battery prices have plummeted to record lows in recent months, creating conditions that could dramatically accelerate EV adoption across global markets. According to industry data, lithium-ion battery costs for the vehicle sector recently reached approximately $57 for a kilowatt-hour of LFP battery chemistry and $61 for a kWh of NMC chemistry.  This represents a dramatic decline from 2022 levels, when prices stood at $134 for LFP and $148 for NMC at the peak of the speculation-driven lithium boom plus pandemic-related supply challenges.  The price collapse stems from a fundamental market shift that occurred roughly two years ago, when…

Study Compares Whether EV Battery Reuse is Better Than Recycling

With battery electric vehicles (BEVs) becoming more common worldwide, a joint team of researchers has conducted a study to determine the best way to handle used electric vehicle batteries. Composed of thousands of lithium-ion cells, these packs have an estimated lifespan of 10 to 20 years, which can be affected by driving habits, battery chemistry, maintenance, and environmental conditions.  After their primary automotive use, EV batteries can continue to operate for up to a decade in secondary applications before being recycled into new battery materials.  Researchers from the Fraunhofer Research Facility for Battery Cell Production (FFB), the Lawrence Berkeley National…
